Monsoon Reverie-Episode-3

Monsoon Reverie

                                                Episode – 3

The musky odour of fresh soaked earth, mesmerizing patters of rain drop, blowing of the moist breeze- with all these traces, the monsoon seems to stir romantic motions in the young and old.

Job-holders find it difficult to travel every day in the bus during monsoon. But in this area they are lucky for they have frequent buses.

Even then most of them like to travel by that particular bus for two reasons-one is that if they travel, they can reach in time to their working places and the other reason is that the driver and the conductor in that particular bus are normally kind enough to help them in reaching safely. They are not rude. Hence job-holders never try to miss that particular bus.

Since a week Shivprasad was nowhere to be seen. He was neither seen in bus nor in college campus.

Everyday Sinchana and Sahana when they came to bus their eyes were searching for him. They were talking about him. Though he did not talk much, his presence was enough for them. They really missed him a lot for he was their pass-time.

Vijayprasad had many other admirers also in the bus. An elderly woman, working in the health department is also a good companion of Sahana.

One day she too asked Sahana “Why that tall and angry man is not seen in the bus nowadays? What’s the matter?” Most of his fans were eager to know about him but no trace of him.

At last Sinchana told Sahana to ask Lavanya about him. She did accordingly.

“Why do you call him Shivprasad?” His name is Vijayprasad” asked

Lavanya doubtfully.

“Never mind, he has two names it seems. His friends usually call him by the other name. By the way, what’s the matter with him? He’s not seen anywhere?  Sahana asked with tension.

“I don’t know anything. Even I am eager to know about him. I heard he applied leave for a few days. That’s all.”

This was Lavanya’s reply but they seemed not pleased with her reply.

One week gone. Both Sinchana and Sahana were waiting for the bus as usual. All of sudden Sahana’s eyes brighten up and she screemed, “yeih Sinchu, look there”, she pointed at Shivprasad and said “reserved-creature he is back.”

Both were very much surprised to see him. At the same time they were stunned to see a graceful woman at his back.

Coming to senses, Sahana asked, “Hello sir, since many days we didn’t see you. Where had you been?”

Vijayprasad with a broad and mischievous smile said, “I had been to my native place to get married my fiance. She is my wife Vinuta” saying so, he introduced her to them.

That was his first smile and this time he had a hearty laugh.

Both of them fell silent for a while and walked away without saying anything

Monsoon Reverie - Episode - 2

Monsoon Reverievv

                                                Episode – 2

The South West monsoon is something special in coastal region. Days before the monsoon the koels are busy singing, frogs start croaking and thereby announce the forthcoming of monsoon rain-drops.

After the college hours Sinchana waited for Sahana at the bus-stop. They began talking as usual.

“Vijayprasad is working as a senior lecturer. His teaching subject is Mathematics. Recently got transferred here to Vijaya College. He talks less. He walks like a statue. Moreover he is un-married. It’s a plus point.  Is it enough or you want more details?” Said Sahana to Sinchana while going back.

…and he is a “Reserved creature” one more remark Sinchana added to her voice. Both of them laughed heartily.

For the past six years Sinchana and Sahana have been working in the same place. Sahana is high school teacher whereas Sinchana is college lecturer. Both have similar taste, style and sense of humour.

Every day they meet Vijayprasad in the bus. He seems to be always reserved never spoke with them.

“Sinchu, today somehow I will make this reserved creature to speak with me you just see” Sahana said confidently.

“that’s highly impossible” Sinchana argued.

“Let me see, it’s a bet” Sahana continued proudly.

“What’s the bet?”

“should give a treat”

“O. K.” It’s done”

Next day Sahana thought of a plan.

She took a difficult sum and straight away went and asked him if he could help her in solving it.

Vijayprasad without much reaction told her to come to his college during free hour so that he could get it solved but he responded seriously.

Sahana was very much pleased for she could win the bet.

As per the bet Sinchana had to give her a treat.

Both of them went to Degree College to seek the help from Vijayprasad to get solved the difficult sum.

The Senior Lecturer Vijayprasad could solve the problem within no time in a simpler way.

Both of them not only appreciated his intelligence but also they admired his way of teaching.

“Sinchu, such a good person he seems to be but look at the way he speaks! No feelings at all! He is like a stone- statue. one weak point  he has that he doesn’t talk much.

Spoke only that much what is needed. So stingy! Hey! I don’t like it” said Sahana dislikingly.

“Sahu, my dear, look at the way of your talking it’s taking a different turn. What do you imagine about him? Come to reality” Sinchana said humorously.

“I don’t know which corner of the world this man has come from?  He won’t even look at us while talking. Very strange.”

Sahana said ignoringly.

It was about to rain. They ran fast as the long bell rang.

The next day when they met him in the bus he didn’t smile. He is sitting in the same stan and style with reserved facial expression and stern look.

“I doubt he is a man or not. Yesterday he got solved the sum so nicely. Today look at his face. Sitting as if we both are unfamiliar to him. Pecu….liar” when Sahana said both of them burst into laugh. For that also he has no reaction sitting like a statue.

During lunch break both of them were having lunch in the garden nearby. A pretty lady was going towards Degree college. She waved her hand with a broad smile when she saw Sahana.

“Who’s she?” asked Sinchana.

She is Lavanya working in Degree College, colleague of Shivaprasad. Her parents cuddled her too much and spoiled her?” replied Sahana.

“Um, but she doesn’t look like that” Sinchana added.

“If she wants anything, she doesn’t leave it, by hook or crook she gets it done”. Sahana continued.

“That dark-eyed, plumpy one, Can’t even imagine?” Sinchana surprised.

“Now she has an eye on Shivaprasad it seems. That’s what the attender Shankrappa was telling the other day”. Sahana commented.

“Then how to rescue our beloved ‘reserved-creature’ Sahu” Sinchana acted in a drametical way

“Don’t worry, leave them, both are extremists. One never smiles, other never leaves”

So saying Sahana dragged Sinchana and stepped towards their classes.

Monsoon Reverie - Episode-1

Monsoon Reverie

                                                Episode-1

“Can I sit in the window-side seat, please?” asked the girl when she climbed up the bus in hurry, catching books in one hand and a wet umbrella in the other.

She was almost drenched in the rain.

The man who was sitting in the front-seat didn’t notice her. He was engaged in reading a fat book in his hand.

Once again the girl asked in a louder voice.

“Can I sit in the window-side seat next to you?”

Now the man lifted his head and saw her, leaving way to her to go to the seat by pulling his legs backward and  said seriously “O.K. by all means”.

The girl responded smilingly.

It was monsoon rain pouring heavily outside. The seat in which the girl sat was completely wet as rain pattering very badly at the window-glass. “O” the girl breathed noisily “I cannot sit here” spoken herself.

“Sinchana, come at the back, here is a seat, you can sit”

Somebody called her at the back. She saw her friend Sahana when she turned back. Accordingly she went to that seat which Sahana pointed at in the other row. Both were sitting side by side talking for a while, couldn’t continue as the passengers were coming inside the bus one by one when it stopped.

Though the road is not visible clearly due to the pitter-patter of rain-drops on the front glass of the bus, the driver was whistling and happily driving. It was his normal style.

The bus stopped at the college canteen after running three kilometers. It’s  the stop where Sinchana and Sahana usually get-down.

When Sinchana came near the door-step, the man who was sitting in the front seat stretched his hand forward and said seriously, “Your hand-key please”, Sinchana pulled it from his hand and got down hurriedly.

“I am sorry, in hurry I could not thank him” said Sinchana to Sahana while walking fast towards their working place.

“Did you leave your hand-key purposely in the seat?”

Sahana taunted Sinchana.

“ Hey! Don’t be silly. I never know I left it there”

Sinchana replied protestingly.

Sinchu, do you know his name. He is Vijayprasad. He is working in Vijaya Degree College” said Sahana.

“He is a guy. How come you know about him? asked Sinchana.

“I know many more things about him. I will be telling you in the evening when we go back home in the bus. Wait for me-bye” waving her hand Sahana darted towards Konkan High school.

Sinchana walked a little further and went inside the compound of Progressive College.
