Akshaya Thritiya, an auspicious day
This year Akshaya Thritiya falls on April 21st, that is on tomorrow. I wish you all well in advance let the festival bring you prosperity and joy.
It is celebrated by Hindus across the country. It is believed that it is an auspicious day as it's the birthday of Lord Parusharama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
'Akshaya' means one that never diminishes, that's inexhaustible. There are several mythological legends which stress the day being fruitful and prominent. On this day Kubera, the banker in heavan was blessed by Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. Kubera has an inexhaustible supply his wealth never decreases.
Sacred river Ganga is said to have descended onto the earth from heaven. Pandavas got unlimited supply of food from the Akshya Patra, and Sudhama was said to have been blessed by Lord Krishna-all happened on this day, that is what I had read.
People specially buy gold, one gram at least, as it is the ultimate symbol of wealth and prosperity, hoping that it keeps multiplying in their household.
Vehicles, home appliances- TV, refrigerators, washing-machines cars and other valuables are bought on this day. Shops and dealers fascinate the customers with attractive offers and discounts.
'Charity begins at home' as we say, it is one of the part of this festive. some of the items donated, feeding the poor are other activities carried out by the people. Hence Akshya Thritiya is a good day for good deeds. Happy Akshaya Thritiya!
