My Students

When I was teaching rural students in P. U. College Baad,  Kumta, I had written it in the year 1995.

                                                MY STUDENTS

I as a lecturer, am proud of my students

For they’re nice, neat and obedient

They take part in learning lively and alert,

In almost all spheres in and out.

I guide them to proceed slow and steady

For here they come, to learn with their mind ready.

In learning English, they are eager

Never feel they belong to weaker.

To lads and lass, I equally treat

And forgive and forget

          Their petty pranks.

When I amuse them with my tit bits

A few of them giggle,

Some of them smile

But most of them laugh

                   Whole- heartedly.

Seldom, when I scold them

          They keep mum

                   To while-- away the time

As they know silence is thousand times

Stronger than speech.

While teaching, off and on, if I shout

“Why do you murmur?”

They mutter, they titter

But they never utter

                             Aloud a single word.

                                                                                                                                -- Indu S. Naik
