Puneet's School Days

Puneet’s School Days

Puneet as a child

Puneet, where have your mind gone?

          Not concentrated on your studies.

I’m sure, it’s been diverted towards cricket.

Do you want me to fetch a stick to chide you?

Mummy used to scold you, when you were

-not doing homework during your childhood.

I know, you never learnt anything bye-heart

          -but yours was only self-study.

On seeing your liking in sports,

Your dad used to say for fun,

“If you don’t like to read

I will put a shop for you in the yard,

                   You can sell things”.

Your Mom didn’t wish to listen

- such words even for fun.

          Can you remember

-how your Mom used to encourage you?

“Children have individual- differences.

Don’t compare.

He will shine one or the other day.

          Don’t worry”.

These were her inspiring words to you.

          Could you remember?

Puneet at Present

How tall have you grown my son?

          More than six feet-

          Both physically and intellectually,

Like a fruit hid behind leaves

-without the knowledge of others

          -like self-awareness is your teacher

          Have you stepped yourself

in the path of your own progress, my child?

You have become progressive

-while studying B. E.

So many shields you have won

-in the inter-college sports competitions.

Those shields are still twinkling and

-glimmering in the show-case at home.                                               You were selected to a mighty company

-While studying in 5th Sem only.

Took up the job, after the completion of B. E.

Not only worked in the metropolitan cities

-like Bangalore and Pune.

But also far- overseas in abroad in Ankara

You are working, living alone,

-leaving behind all your kith and kins.

I am really proud of you,my son.

Being the beloved son of your father,

You told that mother is the most –

-powerful woman in your life.

You are such a gifted one.

I am blessed to have you as my son.                                                      Let the perfume of your personality

-spread far and wide

Let you be a brave son, come back

          -moving around the world.

The Book that impressed me

Book that impressed me

A few months back, my daughter and son-in-law had come home. They knew I am a voracious reader. They presented me four books. I read all the books.  Among those books, one I liked at the most. The name of the book is “Discover your destiny” with the monk who sold his ferrary, written by Robin Sharma. It left a long unforgettable impression on me. My son-in-law had told me that this is the book that turned his life, filled in him confidence, the dire need of life. My daughter appreciated the thoughts in the book that fascinated her to inculcate leadership qualities. The other day, when I was talking with my son who is in abroad on skype, I talked with him about the book, he too agreed. He also showed utmost interest to read the book. Even my husband liked the ‘7stages of self-awakening’ I read it to him loudly. We both sat and pondered over the thought of seven stages. I really felt it purifies my mind and lead to the path of more spiritual experiences. The book contains innumerable quotations which adds more courage when I think of that in my distress.

“In every Winter’s heart lies a quivering Spring. Behind the veil of each night waits a smiling dawn”.

2 Know thyself and you will know the universe and the gods.

3 Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.

4 Wisdom without execution is worthless.

5 Life waits for none.

6 Living an excellent life is a manifestation of self-love.

7 Fear not the unknown, for it is where your greatness resides.

-and likewise.

No of illustrations and happenings in the book throws light on personality development. Self -help is the best help. One should always have positive outlook which ultimately bestows happiness and fulfilment in life. In all these sense, this book is worth-reading. One should read it without fail.

Daughter's Strength

Daughter’s Strength

A daughter is not tension. A daughter is equal to ten sons. There is a dictum in Sanskrit language which I read in English newspaper. As far as my knowledge is concerned, I had read it from Spectrum in Deccan Herald. It is like this-

Dasha putra sama kanya, dasha putran prabharddhayan, yatfalam labhatematya tallavyam kanyayikaye.

A daughter is equallent to ten sons. The benefits which one may acquire by bringing-up ten sons in the family can match that of a single daughter.

Why should we consider daughter a burden or tension?

Not at all!   Consider daughter always your strength. See the progress and reap the harvest.

My son-in-law

                                                My son- in-law

He is our son-in-law, the beloved one

-who is added to our life-treasure

-in recent years in our family.

Whether accidentally or by design

I don’t know but he is our son-in-law.

My daughter

married him.

                                                She is from Kumta,

                             -the beautiful west-coast of Karnataka.

She is typical coastal South Indian.

                                       My son-in-law.

He is from Himachal.

                   The region of ever-gleaming mountain-stream.

                                      He is typical North-Indian.

                                      Both were class-mates

                                      -while studying Engineering.

                                                -waited each other for

-long five years to get married.

After toil and moil of their

                                      -completion of education

And secured- job at different places.

I think it’s only their love

 -that kept them closely bound.

Parents agreed on both sides

-without any objection

-for they are convinced that

-the selection is the best.

Certainly it is the pair God has made!

                                                It is divine plan!

Pooja, my daughter, pretty and plain

                                                Clever and smart,

Like mercury moves happy in and out

-goes to work at the dawn

-in an elegant company

-comes back in the dusk

-dwelling-in  in-laws house.

                                      My son-in-law works in

one of the mightiest company.

                                                -loving and kind

                                                -brilliant and gallant.

He is such a fine guy

-mingles with all in our family

-being in the midst of maternal and paternal

Uncles and aunts

Cousins, niece and nephew

He is liked by all.

Helps me a lot while working on lap-top

                                                He is a real tutor.

Even my husband likes his accent

When he always tries to speak

                                      Kannada like a kannadiga.

One rare good quality, I find in him

-that raises above all of us

That is the patience he has towards all.

                             His un-assuming attitude makes him

Part and parcel of our family

                                       That is unforgettable!!

Moment of Joy

Moment of Joy

The day-before when I opened my lap-top

My attention was drawn by

-an exciting Email, on top

-sent by my son from abroad.

I was amazed at first, when I read

Then rejoiced when I shared it with my husband.

                             The mail reads like this…

                                      “You are the actual pillars

                                                          -of this organization.

                                      You are a consistent performer.

                                      You are the STAR Performer.

You are invited to ACE Event.”

This text reminded me the day,

                                      -my son had been abroad

                                      Working for the project

                                                In a mighty company

                                      all- alone far overseas

People who are duddy and fuddy or cultured

                                      -around me, had suggested

“Your son, being un-married

                                      -not good to send abroad

He is a guy, Days are not good.”

                                      These words never shaken

                                      -either me or my husband

-for we have firm-faith in Almighty Shiradi Baba

                                      And we both are self-believer.

                                                My son, tall and slender

                                                          Strong and decisive

                                                Whose image tells us

                                                “grow big and think big”

-achieved his own identity in life.

                                                          It’s a milestone.

Hats off to you my son!!!

This is a  dictum in Sanskrit language. It means there is a kind of wealth on the earth. It cannot be seized either by a king or any person in authority. It cannot be stolen by robbers. It cannot be divided among brothers. Wife cannot partake it. If we spend it more , it grows more and more in us. This dictum was formulated by a Sanskrit poet 'Barthruhari' a millennium ago but I feel it’s still relevant to man’s education at present. A person who attains this wealth is wealthy in every walk of life. This is the real power of education. In this context , I feel happy to write Pooja’s  Educational achievement & Puneet’s also.
