Beginning of the School in the month of June

Beginning of School in the month of June

After fun and frolic of summer vacation

The School has begun.

I can see children rushing different schools,

Walking on the narrow public-path

In front of my house.

Some of them moving in auto-rickshaw,

Some other by mini-bus,

Many of them by school-bus

Others on scooters or on bike

A few of them in their own car.

Mode of transport may be different

But their motto-Go to school to learn.

The scene reminded me those past days

Where my husband and I struggled hard

Sending our children to school anyway

With heavy bags on their back,

Water-bottle in one hand

And lunch-box in the other.

Standing on our fore-toes to meet

-the school- demands of our children

No time for us to stand-at-ease and stare

Darted towards our working-place

-for we both were job-holders.

Oh! It’s an exciting time for parents now

And for many kids too it’s an unsettling

Buying new books, bags and uniforms

-and other school-essentials

Wrapping school books in brown paper,

Choosing and pasting labels in order

 And so-so- so- on.

All these need a bit of plan

-to avoid their anxiety to settle-in.

I thought old days were of jitter

-but now it is still busier and twitter.

  1. My thoughts run down the memory lane when our journey to school started in the monsoons. New books, new bagpack, new uniforms, shoes, new teachers, new classrooms.......Wonderful were those days. We would to equally delighted though, whenever a leave was announced by the school due to heavy rains!!! Thanks to the monsoons!

  2. Good one! This reminded me my school going days in monsoon being completely wet , sitting in the class-room tremblingly.- Shivanand
